If we are asked; "what does it means to be a follower of Christ?" Just think about it, how do you define “to follow”? “To follow” seems like a fairly wide open response. Does it mean I follow the teaching of Jesus? Or that I give my life over to Jesus? Does it mean I go to church and learn about Jesus? Or perhaps, does it mean I just really, really like Jesus? What does it really mean to be a follower of Christ?
When Jesus tells us to deny ourselves and follow him, he does not mean to deny things. See, Jesus is not talking about doing the BEST we can to deny our lives, comfort, people and situations around us, but instead He is talking about a PERSONAL SACRIFICIAL OBEDIENCE to Him. It is not about me, it is about Jesus. It’s about submitting my entire person to His control.
